i have just recently purchased a flame angel.. it seem very healthy.. bright color and eating fine.. it doesnt appear that it has any ick or anything.. but it seems like 1 or 2 of its scales are like they are shedding or something.. my water quality is good.. just got it checkout at the LFS.. is it another form of disease for flame angels?... if anyone else has has a flame angel that could give me some insight on flame angels that would be great..

and wat happened?... any conclusions?.. any results?.. or any information? or did u just notice it too

Have you seen the scales fall off? Or is it possible it bumped into a rock and they were scraped off? Is the area around where they came off an odd color? I would keep an eye on it, but not get too worried unless it changes color and begins to look infected, or other scales fall off.

i fell in love when i saw a flame angel and i have to have one! problem is my tank is a 25 gal. hex. would i be successful keeping one? and how hard are they to care for?

i have heard that they are pretty hard to care for, but i think you could keep one in a 25 gal hex. Just remember, lots of live rock, alge, and let the tank cycle (if it has not yet). What else do you have in it?

Sid-
Actually the flame angel is one of the hardiest angels. However, a 25 gallon tank is too small for a flame angel. They need more room than that. Not to mention you need a sufficient amount of live rock to allow them to graze.

I had one of my damsels with some scales off of his side.....they did not fall off, I saw another damsel take a nip at him and they came off!
I think that they can grow back, but I am not totally sure. Maybe this is what happened to your fish?

They will rejuvenate but slowly.
I've had little luck with flame angels over the years. I beleive it's the collection method used for these popular fish. I stick w/ coral beauty's which are definately hardier. I don't consider FA's hardy. My opinion based on some experience of course.

Flame makes a good point. All my stuff on flame angels is from articles and Fenner. Fenner does say that if you are selecting one try to get one from the Christmas and Marshall Islands. These places have the best capturing and transportation methods, which have a large affect on the life of the angel. Fenner does say it is one of the hardiest angels.
