Flame/Elect Scallop died

Ok my Flame and Electric Scallops died this week, any ideas why
nothing else has died in my tank since I set it up over 5 months ago, I also have a sandsifting star that seems to be loosing pieces off of its legs,not the leg it self just segments, any ideas??

I've had one that lived probally 4 months before dying. I believe they actually require a slightly dirty tank to filter nutrients out, and phytoplankton, etc. Not sure, I've always heard that its pretty much just not going to make it in most aquariums.

could be an excess of copper in your water. Inverts are very intolerable of that. Are you using tap or RO water?

scallops need dirty water high in food matter to survive. if the water is to clean the will stavre to death. in our reef tanks they usually last only a few months because we keep the water to clean. I kept one for almost a year in a fishonly tank without a skimmer and it did very well. the one I had in my reef died within a few months of ading it to the tank.
