Flame Scallop

I just received a flame scallop. I have a 46 gal tank. Should I place him on my sand bed and let it go where it wants or is there a specific placement that might work best for it? Thanks.

Place him on the sand bed, and use a baster to try and spot feed him phyto dt's etc. They will move on their own. Be warned they rarely live very long because most tanks don't have enough phyto and other misc garbage in the water to feed them. They are heavy filter feeders. HTH

Thanks Bronco. I did take into mind that they dont always last long. Actually, it was a gift, but I remembered all the threads that said the same thing you did. Hopfully, I can be successful. I will use the baster.

I am going on 6 months with mine.
I feed every 2 or 3 days. I use a piece of tubing to blow food right at it soo I don't need to put in too much. I put mine on the sand in the front and coralled it in with 3 pieces of rock to keep it there. After a week it moved out. Had to fly over a 5" high LR barrier but it made it. It will go where it wants and blow sand out of the way to dig a nice hole. It attached sometimes with strands of whatever it is but now has moved back into view. I like mine and hope it sticks around. Just yesterday I fed it and it was opened much more than usual. Good or bad I don't know but here is a pic.
