hey guys i have a litttle story and question. the week before thanks givving i go to my lfs get some food, water, coral, and i c this beautiful flame angel fish that i saw there the previous week. i asked the people to please feed it so i could make sure it would eat and sure enough it did. i come home aclimate it ect.. lights left of for about 3hrs. everything is going good im givving it nori soaked in its food with garlic and feeding him with the other fish which are 3 yellow tail damsels and 3 domino damsels 3 times a day. the flame always has a strip of nori avaiable and eats it. well today i noticed he has some white speckes on him primarialy on the very ends of his fins
. right when i saw that i crushed up some garlc and feed him. he eats like a pig nd is fat and happy, never gets dominated by the damsels. params are literally perfect. u can c pics of him in the photo galery under "lots of pics of my 29gallon sps tank". idk what to do besides hope he passes and get over it because to me there is no sence in qting him if hes eating like a pig. does anyone know of any other supplements i could be givving him to ensure his general health and help fight off the ick? thxs guys

I don't understand where you're going with this. Ich is totally treatable with hyposalinity or copper in QT. You can do a lot more then just making sure the fish is fed enough. The logic that garlic does anything more then an appetite stimulant if one of the biggest myths in the hobby. You have also exposed your other fish to Ich. You should treat them as well.

Brandon....You have probably read the numerous threads/debates about treating Ich on this forum. Before I started using QTs/hyposalinity and/or copper to do my best to eliminate Ich I tried to control the symptoims with Kick-Ich which contains a medication in the same family as the drug..metronidazole. While I would still strongly suggest that you consider
hypo or copper (cupramine), the Kick Ich 'appeared' to do no harm to my inverts and the Ich 'appeared' to go away on the fish. It did come back...about 3 months later.
I am sure you will be given advice about other supplements/bottled cures. I wish you luck in whatever you choose to do.

the only thing that is stopping me from hypoing/copper is the fact that he is eating like a pig, alert, not breathing heavly and i dont wanna stress him out more by netting him or trapping him then putting him in another tank.

Brandon....I have done hypo on probably 40 fish in the last 2 years. Many different types, including Tangs. It is not that stressful IMO and in the opinion of many others on this and other sites. You will get other opinions, but I have not lost a single fish with hyposalinity. If you set up the QT correctly...read the thread by Beth in the archived threads...I do not feel you will harm the fish and you will have then chance of never having it again if you treat all your current fish and let the DT go fishless for 6 weeks. Then practice proper quaranting in the future.
This is initially a large time/Pain in the butt commitment, but it usually does work. It is certainly easier to use a bottled treatment in the DT, but I do beleive that you may have success with controlling the symptoms, but you won't eliminate the disease.

Very well said
We will walk you through this Brandon. Use reef safe meds to keep the parasites off of your fish while you set up and cycle a qt.

You did hypo before the tank was a reef? If you need help, please do not hesitate to ask. We are all here.

Be sure you are going to QT all your fish, otherwise the ich will be in your display and probably just attack the Angel once it is re-introduced into the display.
Did I read your original post corectly? 6 Damsels in a 29 gallon?

yes sir u did it is an sps tank so i have overstocked it but not to the point where the fish are having agression problems. i have not lost a single fish in the past 6mths and my params are perfect. refer to the photo page and c the flame and tank under lots of pictures of 29gallon sps tank. the flame has not been bullied by any of the damsels but the damsels have submissed to the flame and made him the alapha fish.
