Flatworm exit and carbon

PLEASE read the instructions on that stuff. Flatworm exit works extremely well, it kills mostly all of the flatworms. Problem is that when the flatworms die, they release toxins. Now if you have to many in there that you didnt get out, the toxins from the dying flatworms could wipe out your entire tank.

I know I have used it before and Belive me I am very paranoid about affecting my fish and inverts thats why I do the big water change and follow the direction. However I am just wandering where to put the carbon in a wet dry situation. I can put it under the inlet to the sump, and the water would fall onto the carbon and through it, is that enough?

I finally gave in and used the stuff. I moved the tank a few months ago, so the flatworm populations were greatly diminished. No problems with the water quality - I siphoned a lot of dead ones off the sand, and put a huge bag of activated carbon in one of my sump compartments to catch the toxins. The fish seem fine, so does the cleaner shrimp and cucumber.
Unfortunately, some of the flatworms also seem OK! I put about 90 drops into a 72gal+15gal(sump), the recommended dosage was 70 drops. I also did my hospital tank, and the flatworms have already returned to that tank. I thought your comment was interesting ("kills mostly all the flatworms")- if this stuff doesn't eradicate the flatworms, what good is it?

What worked 100% for me was cutting back my feedings in the tank. I used FE 3 times and some always survived. I cut back from feeding 2 times per day to once and bam in about 3 weeks all my FW were dead.
I've gone from 2 times a day to about once every 2 days, and they're still reproducing.

Anyway, to answer your question.. flatworms eat microscopic organisms - micro algaes, diatoms, etc. So, they're basically tied to your tank's excess of nutrients. If you do regular water changes it's supposed to control them (I found this to be true - the populations are LESS if you keep changing water - but it doesn't eliminate them, just treats them temporarily). I'm going to wait a few days and repeat the dosage of Flatworm Exit. It's a shame, I was hoping that bottle would treat both tanks and be enough to treat new corals, live rock, etc going forward.. I guess I'll need another bottle now.
