It's the middle of winter. does anyone know why i'd still have nasty flies still coming into my house? where would they most likely be coming from? they seem to only be in one room (of course, the baby's room) but i have no clue how they get INTO the house :(

I dunno but how many flies are you talking about?
Ever heard of hanging a ziplock bag full of water in your garage or doorway? It's "supposed" to keep flies away. It's probably bull but then again I've never seen a fly in a garage that has a hanging bag of water.

Probably from your fruit laying around the house..

bout 4-5 a week, sometimes that many in a day (like this morning). we find them dead or dying along the windows. its the regular house flies. AFAIK there's nothing dead around and they are driving my wife bonkers.

You probably have an excess of nutrients, try reduced feeding?

Or get some fly tape.
Or if you prefer the natural method

I've been noticing the same thing in my house. I think it's the weird weather patterns...when it warms up a bit some of the eggs out there hatch early and the new flies immediately look for some place warm. I'm sure any chance you open the door is a chance for them to get in, they're probably just waiting around for that moment. I haven't had any success getting rid of them tho ...

Found this from a quick google...
By Vernon Stent.....
As the winter nears many insects become scarce. Adult house flies, for example, die off. Thank goodness for that I hear you say. Just remember though, that house fly eggs live on and are to be found in their larval or pupal stage hiding in some dung or in some rubbish somewhere. They may also be laid in warm attics or rafters. Flies are opportunistic and will lay their eggs anywhere that is a food source. For instance, if a mouse of bird has died in your attic, flies will use its rotting corpse as the perfect host for its young.
If the pupae or larvea were outside they would stay dormant through the cold weather. The trouble with lofts though, is that warm air tends to rise and keep them relatively warm. The eggs won't stay dormant for long. The warmth in the loft will result in continuous development until the young flies are finally hatched and, as is their nature, start to rove around looking for food.
They won't go far. In the winter, the only source of heat will be the house itself. They may stay trapped in the loft and might die off once all food sources have been exhausted. They may also die off if the house occupants go on vacation and turn off the heating. In many situations however, they will make their way into the living quarters of the house and start to do their nasty work of landing on and sampling various foodstuffs. The kitchen is one of their favourite destinations.

i could see a dead mouse... i'll have to go into the attic, but i bet i won't find anything other than pneumonia from the cold :(
i wonder if i could do a fly bomb up there... there's only the 2.5x2.5 access panel and the house fan... if i covered both i wonder if it would be safe to do

hang some of those fly strips up there and see if thats where they are. We had a problem with them in our bathroom. We kinda think they were coming from the septic.

Heh - you too ? We have that problem too. I see them and I just kill them when I see one. A few died - or I should say they fried themselves under the ceiling light fixtures in our bedroom. Once the weather gets really cold - I think it'll be the end for them til spring. LOL !!

we get the ones that kill themselves on the light fixtures as well, but i need to figure out how to stop them from getting in.
imagine my wife walking into the nursery to find a big arse house fly sitting on my future baby's forehead...

Nasty little creatures arent they? Hang up a fly strip they are so attractive
. I would say no to the fly bomb in the attic because of lack of ventilation.

you could try telling them to politely go away. or you could put up a huge thing of fly strips and lots of em in a closet or something room like. then put a heater in that area so they are attracted to the room and bingo, the flies are dead.
