Hurricane Humberto missed us by a HAIR. Seriously. Less then 30 miles on the clean side. Thank goodness.
As for the inverter idea, it was my bro's last minute save. he wants me to get a "load meter" next, so that I can tell how much juice the battery has. With some math (ugh) I can tell just how long it will last. Also he thinks maybe a solar panel to always keep a marine battery charged might be fun. (fun for who?)
Annnnyway, with a little bit of money and some tinkering we may come up with a safe, portable and cheap(er), not to mention greener, method of keeping the tank afloat as it where.
Are you keeping an eye on TD #8? I'm leaving that battery where it is for now!

I hope everything is A-Ok right now? It kinda looks like everything is going to either "blow over" or go North.

Soooo, in a test run of my battery powered airstone pumps (long overdue I might add). It has been running for 4.5 days on OLD batteries. Soooo I think that with four of those suckers running on new batteries I will be ok as far as oxygen...light is a different matter but you can't win them all!!!!!!!

Anyone look at solar panels? I've seen some here local that provide 30 - 60 watts for under $300. You can hook a charge controller between the solar panel and a 12v battery, and it will keep the battery charged for use. You'd have to determine the drain load of your aquarium equipment on a 12v battery to see how much solar power you would need to keep the battery charged during use. I imagine you could run the small pumps off of it for some time. Doubt you could keep a large light going though.

That would be great for regular power outages! The only thing is during a hurricane the sun is seldom seen!!!

p.s living without ac for 2 weeks is complete hell!!!
Same here.
If you live in Florida, it is a must.
I have two, one for the home and one solely dedicated to be used for my tank.
With the kind of money many of us have invested in our tanks, $300 to run it in an emergency is money well spent.
During Wilma, thank God I had those generators. My fish never knew what happened and that I was without power for 7 days.
Prior hurricanes that destroyed a nano reef and a 75 gallon reef taught me an expensive lesson.
In Florida, a generator, a pressure cleaner and plenty of containers for gas are a must in every garage.

i was gonna say if you've dropped a ton in your tanks money wise, whats 3-600 dollars if it means saving thousands invested in it already....but thats cool the place you work said you could take it there if needed.

Yeah thats what I thought, I only live about 45 seconds walk from there so I figured why not. They have 8 6-7 year old tanks that are HUGE and healthy!

Eckkk, WHY? I am the type of person who, when I find a new angle to worry about, it happens to me.
For example, the local race track has digital blackjack machine. There is a "bet 1" button and a "bet 10" button. The $20 table was all that was available.
So I put $300 in the machine, and the woman next to me reminds me not to hit the "Bet 10" button, because that would be $200! (keep in mind I dont play more than $20 a hand EVER!).
Needless to say, every bet scared the heck out of, as I carefully extended my index finger, being painstakinly conscious of that stupid "Bet 10" button. That was - of course - until the time I accidentally hit the "Bet 10" button, and the dealer got BlackJack, and I was out $200!!!
So, if Philly gets hit by some crazy storm in the next couple of months, #1 dont be suprised and #2 I will be the only guy in the city with no power as me, my Clown, and my Purple Pseudo swim around in a puddle outside of the Liberty Bell...just my luck
Ok, digression over!!!
