Mantis shrimp and gorilla crabs are the two biggest problems. Gorilla crabs have the same body as an emerald crab. They are an off white, brown, pinkish color with hairy spikes all over their body. Very agressive crabs that will hunt and kill your fish, snails, shrimp, etc while they are sleeping.

I found several mantis shrimp and found them easier to deal with and get rid of than the gorilla crabs. I have had my tank up for two years now and put tampa bay gulf rock in a year and a half ago. I pulled out my last gorilla crab about two months ago. Felt kind of bad because of all the ones I pulled out this one seemed to leave everything alone, including my cleaner shrimp, but why take the chance.
I would definitely cure the rock before putting it in an established tank. You will have a lot of die off, unless you are getting it locally.

I suggest pinpointing the clicking and looking really hard for the mantis. If it is in the rock look for a hole it might be hiding in. Once the rock is located take it out and place it in a bucket of salta water. This is how I got all mine out. Once you think you have all them out trust me you will find more.

use a soda bottle and cut the top part off and flip it around backwards. I have seen many threads with this trick working great

I just purchased 100 lbs of florida rock from another local aquarist who didnt like it. He preferred the fiji rock. I am still curing it. It is in a 100 gallon tub. There were LOTS of mussels on it that are dying everyday. The orange sponges are turning white and shrinking. There was halimedia(sp?) and what looked like some knid of macro algae thats dying too. I certianly will NOT put this in my tank untill the dye off is completed. Im doing water changes every three days. Ive got good water movement and a big skimmer running.
Do you think I should hook up the canister filter and run carbon through it???
