flow rate question

i've been having some problems with my algea and I think I have narrowed it down with reaserch. I have a 125G FOWLR and i am currently running 2 ecco ehiem canister filters. their flow rate is about 145gph each wich i figure gives me 290gph in all. Now i've heard and read that u need about 10x to 15x flow rate per hour. is that correct? and if so a powerhead would work? and if so again, how do i want to set it up? I guess the whole idea is to get the whole amount of water in the tank circulating.

actually what kind of water do you use? secondly, water flow does play a part but if you use tap water or your tank is close to a window more flow won't correct it> more info would help
