OK I found this coral I would like to buy, a beautiful red Goniopora...but after reading about it I am a little nervous about keeping it.
My water parameters are pretty much perfect. I have a 55 gallon, with 260 watts of PC lighting, skim about half the time, and run a phosphate sponge whenever I am skimming.
Coral-wise I currently have a branching Hammer, Frogspawn, several colonies of zoos, lots of shrooms and ricordea, and a gorgonian. (due to my lighting I stay away from the SPS)
One item of note, my tank is nutrient rich, in that I also have a snowflake eel and a sun coral (tubistrea)...so by default, I need to feed quite a bit and spot feed the sun and the gorg (it is not the photosynthetic type). But it is funny (and I might be completely wrong here), I read that nutrient rich tanks, with a good population of pods etc is probably the best chance a goniopora has?
As much as I would like to buy this guy, I would not want to buy something that is not suited to my tank and/or my skills. At the same time, if it has as good a chance in my tank as in someone else's tank, then...that is a risk I may be willing to take. I am used to taking the time to spot feed some of the items in my tank, and this would not be a problem for me with the goniopora...but from my reading, it does not appear as if anyone is completely clear on what to feed them...thus my complete nervousness!
Any thoughts gratefully received, and thanks in advance for the advice (again!).
