flowerpot coral/sun coral

Goniopora is a very difficult coral to keep long term...far more failures than success...in my opinion it should be left in the ocean. I've tried but failed the same as most other hobbyists. The sun polyps are a difficult to keep coral also...they depend on direct feedings and require a lot of hands on maintenance. Before you attempt either I'd urge you to research each extensively then decide for yourself if you can meet the requirements of these corals.

Well recently I just bought a flowerpot, goniopora, (about a week ago) and since I have brought it home it has created 2 new flowerpots! One is still attached to the main goniopora but hopefully soon it will fall off and I'll have another baby. Anyways I read up on it and they way that they are very difficult to keep, especially the goniopora. And if you want a flowerpot go for the Alveopora. Which is similar to the goniopora but instead of each polyp having 24 tentacles they have 12.
If you must have a goniopora then keep this in mind: they like low to medium currents, aggressive, and no one really knows what kind of light they prefer. Some say bright lights and others say low light.

Honestly that is what most people refer to as "polyp bail out" they are so stressed and need to survive is so great that they drop polyps in hopes that they get taken by current somewhere more suitable. not a good thing IMO.
I have to disagree about sun polyps tho. I think that yes that are a LOT of work, but they are pretty hardy and look fabulous. The readily sprout small new polyps that grow and ar eon of my favorite corals.
