Fluval 305 Help

I just got a Fluval 305 for my brand new 30 gallon tank... but I'm running into problems while trying to get it running. I read the directions and got all of the tubing etc. set up correctly, or at least I think...
The problem is, when I turn the pump on and let the water pump into the cannister, it overflows and comes out the sides when it gets to the top. Anyone know why it would be doing this?

Check the seal, make sure it is on correctly. Also make sure the top is not on backward. Make sure the symbol between the top and bottom lined up.

if it's leaking out the top, there is something wrong with the seal.
