Fluval 404 Help

I recently was given a Fluval 404 canister filter and was wondering if anyone knows which media needs to be re-filled and how often..and any other maintenence tips. Thanks

I was reading about canister filters the other day. Another board member, Murph, runs the Fluval 404.....2 of them I believe. I recall him saying he changes the media once a month, but uses top shelf activated carbon in the canisters. Maybe you'll get a reply from him.

i run a 304 on my 40g tank. i love it.
the constant maintenance on it keeps my husbandry skills up, i guess.
there are 4 foam filters. i squeeze them out in old tank water, but swap out one of them every month. in terms of media, i have 2 trays of bio max (the ceramic rings), and 1 tray of carbon. im going to switch it down to 1 tray of carbon, 1 tray of bio max, and 1 tray of like, phosban or that other stuff (starts with an r).
ive heard of some people running the fluval filters without media- they just fill it with lr rubble.

Are there any media in it that must be removed for a reef tank?

you could pass on the bio rings, thats what i did when i was using a 404 on my 80g
