I just got one of these in the mail for my 55 gallon aggressive tank..... Can I get some info on them.. Can you put the canister insidethe aquarium stand? Anyone know some good substrate to use in it?

once you clean your fluval 404 all your beneficial bacteria is gone... go with a wet/dry..... JMO....

I use one on my 75. But as slash stated if you complete clean it out the bacteria is gone. The only thing i clean is the foam inserts, and i never dump the water out of the canister. I use bio-beads in 3 of the 4 containers and i run a carbon bag in the last one. Unfortunatly you will sooner or later have to clean it out there is no way around it.

Hey, how do you open and close the valve controling the water flow (the gray one) on the fluval 404?

yep the gray one. If you mess with the blue will it is running your going to have one heck of a mess

what I mean is that it doesn't seem to move down <that is the grey one> ????? How do you get it to open up the valves?

Mine would not move until i hooked it up to the canister, I would hook it up, then try to move it down towards the canister. gently as that is an expensive part to replace. If htat don't work you may have a defective part, it does happen. if you need anymore help feel free to email me I will be more than willing to help ya out as much as i can. sorry for the delay it has been a hectic day.

i have a fluval 204 on my 20gal salt...i just purchased another one and will be putting it on my 58gal in addition to my wet dry filter setup. the reason i am doing so is so that when i have to clean out the one on the 20gal...i can take the one from the 58gal over and run it there since and the tank will not have to cycle again! and just throw the one i cleaned from the 20gal over to the 58gal

by the way, how do all those fish get along in that agressive 58 gallon tank? I would like a setup with a picasso and sfeel in my 55 gallon tank...
