I have a couple of fluvals I was wondering how often
to clean them. 1 once a month or longer? I also have an
eheim wet/dry 2227 how often to clean it out? any suggestions would be greatly apprecatied. What is the best way to clean these filters. I have been putting used saltwater in a bucket and dumping bio media in it and sifting through it with my hands. Is this good? thanks

I do mine when I do water changes monthly. The way you are doing it is fine. Doing with water changes works well because you can use the changed out water to rinse everything with. Be sure to stay on top of it though becaus eif you let it go too long they can cause nitrates to rise. I don't really need mine a s biofilter because of my LR and LS so I usually rinse wth tap water to make sure I get everything off even though it will kill the good bacteria since I don't need them.
