does anybody have experience with fluval 404s? i have one attached to my system just for extra water movement and carbon exposure, but it CRANKS out bubbles. I've tried everything, changing hoses, taping the canister seams, you name it, and still bubbles like crazy... any suggestions? :notsure: :notsure: :notsure:

is it a jet. smell the bubbles at the surface, i had one doing that. turned out the jet was burning up on the inside and the heat was the cause of the bubbles. replace it if smells like it is burning

i don't smell anything bad. canister is full and level. I think I'm just gonna punt and get another filter. Anybody got a favorite?

it's like that .. when you pump it bubbles will come out and once you pump enough it will go away.

no, nothing like that -- I'm talking day after day of high volume bubbles -- bubbles all over the place clouding up the water constantly. this can has got to be defective...

Is your return line above or below the water line. If it is not below the water line it will produce bubbles. Get the return below the water line and the bubbles should go away.

A friend of mine has a Fluval that creates bubbles as well..
It is caused by a leak in a hose or seal that actually sucks air into the system.
Check all the hoses and valves first.
If you can't eliminate the air leak, take it apart and re-seat everything..
Check the main canister seal.

Went through 3 brand new Fluval 404's. Every one of them began to leak within 3 months of use. No matter how many times I resealed the top and fussed with the O ring.
Will NEVER use them again. Garbage. I love eheim 2028 and 2250/60 filters.

Yeah, that was a little tricky. I was trying to siphon the water through the pump until I found the prime button. I had no idea the blue button on top of the filter was a primer. Once the suction was started...it kicked right on over.
