Flying with Live Rock

My brother in law is flying down from Cleveland on the 2nd. I want him to go to the lfs there and get me a 50lb box of 2-3 live rocks. Will he be able to just check the rocks like baggage at the airport? As long as the box with rock only weighs 49.9 lbs he should be alright? Is that right?

call ahead to the air line. or ship it as air freight with the airline he's flying. Call ahead would be best!
I recieved most of my live rock air freight.

So even if he is flying i have to pay? he cant just check it?

Like I said call ahead and check. It should check as his 2nd bag, but I'm not 100% sure. If it is in a sealed box, Id see no issues.

Thanks man. I can buy it there for 3.75 lb hand picked in the curing bin. So thought i'd make the most out of his trip lol. Can't wait to hear him say, man you had me pack that to the check luggage for some d@#m rock.
