For a 12 gallons how many 1in fish?

how many tiny 1-3in fish can a 12 gallons tank hold?
I was thinking of
1 blenny
1 clown
1 damsel
1 basslet
Is that too many?

maybe you should take out the damel, and depending on what kind of clown, basslet, and blenny you get, i think you should be fine. just keep up with water changes.

I was thinking of starting out with a:
Percula clown fish
Mandarin fish
Emperor angelfish (Small)
Along with taking the damsel out
How does this sound?

The mandarins rarely make it in nano tanks. Most of them will not accept commercial foods and they will deplete a 12 gallon tank's supply of pods in about a week and just starve from there on out. They are beautiful fish, and they stay small enough. It is just that their feeding needs can't be easily met in most nano tanks.
The percula should be fine. There are a lot of interesting looking gobies and blennies that stay small. A site that rhymes with www.mivemaquaria.com has a fairly decent list of nano suitable fish. This site is typically cheaper if you meet the minimum order value and the shipping is free.

I think mandarins are hard to keep in any tank under 75. They only eat pods, which your tank needs to be very well established to have as many as they need. They will most likely starve to death, especially in a tank that small.

Wrong! They will sometimes eat live brine shrimp mine does, but it has no nutrional value at all for them so i don't. You just can't keep one in a nano tank. Some mandrins can be trained to eat frozen, but need pods also, especially in the beginning because getting them to eat frozen, (if you ever do) takes time and usually doesn't happen.

Ok regardless of whether or not he finds a frozen eating mandarin this is a 12 gallon tank and it would need to be fed at least twice a day, they are slow eaters and miss tons of food, are you going to recommend this to someone new to the hobby? This is a job for someone dedicated to water changes and feeding, plus very few will take frozen anyways. Scooter blennies are more likely but still not a beginner fish. A 12 gallon is a small tank, a occ. clown would be a good choice, clown goby, maybe a blenny or royal gramma. No angelfish is going to be able to live in that tank, they are an active fish that picks off life on the rocks and need an established tank, putting a large angel in there would be a death sentence. I have a 12 gallon and had a yellow clown goby and tailspot blenny. Both good choices for a small tank. If you want big fish you are going to have to set up a larger tank as 12 gallons are only really good for small perchers or bottom dwelling fish like gobies/

i dont think that 4 fish is too much for a 12 gallon. It will matter what kind of clown, blenny, damsel, and basslet. Some basslets, damsels, blennys, and clowns can be kept in 10+ gallon tanks.
