For anyone who uses Garlic??

I recently, last week, started to use garlic to supplement fish food. About 20 min. after the feeding, I was looking in the tank and noticed that my coral-banded shrimp was dead!

Does anyone know, was this mere coincidence or will shrimp have a bad reaction, like death, to the garlic? All other inverts in the tank are fine. He was in the tank for about 6 mos., and was large. Tank params all good, all other fish and inverts are healthy and happy. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are you sure he didn't just molt? Garlic does not usually have negative effects on inverts. If he is dead, I am sure it is just a coincidence.

Yea. Its gotta be a quink a dink. Inverts dont just die for no reason.Water quality (good) It wopuld help for specifics. Some people think that trates around 10 is good. It can harm inverts,

either he died by coincidence or he's molted and what you're looking at is the exoskeleton .. I have 7 peppermint shrimp, 3 cleaner shrimp, and 1 Fire shrimp and I put garlic in my fish's diet every few days

No it wasn't molt, because my nassarius snails were all over it. With past molts, they pretty much left it alone. When I fished it out, it was definately the shrimp.
Tank conditions:
Ph= 8.2
Amm=0
Nitrites=0
Nitrates=0
SG=1.022
Its sounding to me more like coincidence. :thinking: Thanks to all for the quick input.

Yeah, all others in the tank are fine. It just seems like great timing that 20 min later, dead.

Thanks sep

SG is a little bit low for inverts. Most prefer the 1.025 range. That could have had something to do with it.

I soak food in garlic from time to time and I've had my fire shrimp for 2yrs. I know he eats it.
