When you first starting using chaeto, how long did it take for you to see a reduction in nitrates? And for those of you who used it without a fuge, where did you put it?

as far as time goes I started at 0ppm so I never saw how long till it started to work.
chato needs light and if you put it in your tank :scared: it will take over .if you try to take it out of your tank it will break up and start to grow every were. I would rec a fuge.

I saw an improvement within a month when I first put it in my 75.
I had chato take over my 29 back in dec took for ever to clean it out

What does that mean??? I use to have chaeto in my fuge, 3 times it turned white and died, so I switched to curlupia which is growing great, just not doing a thing for my trates. I actually did a 40% water change cause it was up to 60, got it down to 20 though. I am going to do another 40% next week to lower it even more, but thats alot of water to do in a 150, rather get help from my fuge, thats why i put it in

gose sexualy = when the light goes out in your fuge at night. curlupa emits the traits back in the water. people who use curlpa have reverse lighting to keep this prob somwhat at bay.
chato dose not go sexuall at night that is why i recamend it to everyone

I turn the light on at night when my DT lights go off
Its growing like crazy, and so are my trates. need to thin it out soon. Guess all I can do is huge water changes to get it under control.

Caulerpa does not go sexual releasing nitrates on a nightly basis. Where did you get this info?

(chelated or non-toxic)Iron is a big factor in your tanks chaeto survival. you want it (I believe)0.25-0.50mg. planted aquariums need a certain amount of iron to survive.

Calurpa is known to go sexual, I am not sure what it does when it goes sexual, but it has been also known to cause tank wipe-outs(by whatever it does when it goes sexual) if calurpa is trimmed/ pruned REGULARLY the chances of it goes sexual are slimmed signifigantly.(that is what I have read and heard)

That is what I read in my Iron test booklet. There are two types: Chelated(non-toxic) and Free(toxic) Irons!!!
