Hi my name is vince.
I live in Dexter, MI and this is my last year in high school. I am trying to setup up a Reef display tank for the school. I am only 18 with a miniumum wage job.
I was wondering if anyone would be so kinda as to help me with equipment on this tank. I need anything I can get(tank, heaters, pump, filters, lights, etc..) If ANYONE has anything laying around like this and would be willing to help me with this project I would greatly appriciate it.
I have some money and could try to pay for the equipment but like I said I am only 18 with a miniumum wage job.
I would be willing to pick up the equipment at your convinence.
Anything will help with this project.

just a suggestion go to michiganreefers.com I have only been on the site for like 1 month and half but have already seen three posts about i want to set up for the school usually by teachers though. They almost always get donations and it helps because its usually local.

I was just wondering, if this is your last year of school, who takes care of it when you are gone. It will take a few months just to get going and this is January. Will one of the teachers do it? and if so, will the school pay for it?

Yes I have two teachers that have their own reef tanks and they will care for the tank when I am at collage.
The school is willing to give us $100.00 for this project which is NOTHING.
That is why I am asking for donations.

what about the summer are the teachers gonna check on it every day or are you gonna beable to have a key to the school. Your intentions sound great but I would not nessecarly trust the teachers with taking care of it. Also $100 dolars what about maintance costs after your gone. If the school is only willing to invest 100 now they probably are not ready for a long term investment IMO

I have worked out the summer issue. My mother is a the head secratry at the high school and has the master keys for the entire school.
I trust these teachers since they have had SW tanks before, and they have me email if anything happens. If worst come to worst I will drive the 4 hours to get home to fix the problem.
Can anyone help with donations??

you said you were gonna get a black tip reef shark a LONG time ago and everyone got pissed at u even if you were gonna give it to your mom's zoo aquarium. i just can't believe a person like you would put it in a 300 gallon tank then give it to the zoo

My mom lost here job six months ago from the zoo.
I know three people who have Black tip's in 300 gallons right now. Question would you put a fish in a tank when it was small and move it to a bigger tank when it got older?? If you say no you are LYING.
Second if your not donating Don't post. I ask for help from you guys and al you have done is trash talk me. Grow up.

why not just put it in a tank that will support it its whole life. why waste money on another tank. fine that's the rest i'm posting here.

Is the school going to be climate controlled during the summer? I know they aren't down here.
Maintenance costs are going to be an issue. Reef tanks need expensive lights, which need expensive light bulbs.
You sure this is a good idea?

I understand the risks and am prepared to take them.
Does anyone have anything. I am about to just give up now, everyone has maid this into this huge deal on every board I went to.
