Hello i've had my tank going now for about 3 or 4 months. My salinity temp nitrates...and everything are ok. only thing that even reads on my charts is nitrates at .15ppm. i have mushrooms zoos and yellow polyps that are flourishing incredibly. splitting and growing faster than i could ever imagine. but all my fish die! I've had 3 clowns 2 gramma's 1 scooter blenny and a flame angel today i have 1 gramma and a blenny. nothing else lives for more than a week or so. i feed many different foods in small quantity's. once every 2 days. i have never lost 1 snail i still have the same amount i started with. I never saw a dead hermit crab i have a lettuce nubi that loves life 4 shrimp having a great time 2 emerald crabs .........everything lives and flourishes except fish...anyone have any idea's? i never see signs of ich i acclimate my fish for atleast 2 hours bfore putting them in. If this message is messy and badly written it's because i'm aggrivated right now that all my fish croak......any idea's? and suggestions? ANYTHING AT ALL!!!!!!!!

Have you noticed any bite marks or anything on the fish? When you say all your levels are good can you post them? How do you acclimate your fish? You are not seeing any change in the fishes apperance...colors fading, no white spots nothing like that? Is your tank grounded? Did you buy all these fish at the same place? The reason I asked about the bite marks or anything like that is maybe you have a mantis....I guess I should ask do you have LR? Thats all I can come up with question wise for now.....so start there.
Try not to add anymore fish until anyone or everyone can help you try to figure this out. Stay patient and we(meaning everyone) will try to help you.

Hey thanks alot i have a 55 gallon tank about 70lbs of live rock a skimmer that pulls out a full cup of goop every 2 or 3 days... 3 inch sand bed amonia 0.00 nitrates .10-.20ppm nitrites...none it's just weird to me that everything else is flourishing so much. If i had a Mantis i'd think the blenny would be the first one dead.... Thanks for any help

well you would think he would be the first one to go but you never know in this hobby...well someone on another board said they thought crabs were all women..lol (would explain alot). Anyway, ummm I think I read where you said they all come from different stores. Have you done the flash light dance at night? This very well may help you find the culprit. Water quality seems good especially since you have inverts still alive. Your corals are doing fine right? I sware you have to have a crazed character somewhere...lets wait and see if anyone else comes up with some idea. My guess is you have a hitchiker, but I am no expert. What about your tank is it grounded?

im thinking my lfs is selling me bad fish, be cause my fish always die when all my levels are godd, usually my nitrates get above zero, but whos doesnt. my inverts are all doing awesome, its just the fish. next fish, i think im gonna order from here, and see what happens. just thought id let u konw ur not the only one experiencing these problems. y dont u just switch to a reef tank if ur polyps and everything are doin great. just an idea :D

What do you mean switch to a reef tank?....isn't my tank already the beginning of a reef tank?...a reeef tank still has fish. even though i'd say as far as saltwater goes fish are my least favorite part of the bunch. i love my fish but i still love corals and inverts more :)

Man, I know if this happened to me I'd be pissed and confused as a futher mucker! Hopefully a saltwater guru can fix ya up soon enough. Did you maybe pass gas really badly close or next to the tank before they croaked? Or maybe you were watching a show with Anna Nicole Smith and they got overheated and got too stressed by seeing 36 triple D's? I mean, i dunno...just questions i'm askin here, just questions. :sleepy:

The feeding once every two days seems a bit low. How do you acclimate? I see you acclimate for two hours, but what is the procedure? This may be the key right here. I also noticed you have some nitrites (not nitrates) in your tank....nitrites aren't tolerable to many fish at any level. This may be your problem. But where are they coming from? How many fish have you added at once? This is another factor. In a fifty five gallon I would only add one fish a month unless under two inches. Then maybe two. You might be stressing your bioload pretty fast if you are adding more than one at a time. Waiting in between fish is key as well, as if you add to fast your bioload doesn't have time to catch up and the fish esentially choke as O2 is depleted to quickly.
Do you have any powerheads and how many? what is your water turnover rate? Are the powerheads rippling the water at the top of the tank to get a good O2/CO2 reaction?
How often have you done a wtaer change and how big were they?
