I hate to be the only nay-sayer, but I don't see a great deal of value in splitting up regionally. First of all, dividing into 4 or 5 regions will still mean that the vast majority of the items for sale even within my region are potentially, or even likely, farther away than I am willing to drive. Conversely, if I am in a border state for a region, then I may find myself checking the other message boards for the states which are adjacent to mine, but which are not in my region.
Another byproduct is the probability of a potential buyer not seeing an item for sale which the seller is willing to ship, but the seller posted in their "regional" rather than "general" classified forum. Another phenomenon which seems to occur frequently is the seller which wants to avoid shipping and finds that they have to ship because they are unable to locate any local buyers.
At least one other board uses regional classifieds already, and frankly, I don't see that it is much of an improvement. If you want to see this setup in action; albeit, with a small fraction of the posts which occur on SFW, check out: *Link Removed*
On the other end of the spectrum is what ***** does. Where they have seperate forums for selling/trading, dry goods, livestock and want to buy. -- has many times the number of posts which SWF receives every day and overall, I would have to say that that style of categorization seems to work pretty well.
Sorry for referencing other boards, but if you want to make improvements, it might be helpful to at least look at what has already been done.
I like SWF and personally think that if it were to seperate WTB ads from WTS adds and encourage people to be clear regarding their location on their subject line, require posting of selling prices, prohibit non-fish related posts then the classifieds would provide a improved marketplace for hobbyists to exchange/reuse/recycle.
One huge improvement that could be made would be to implement feedback mechanism similar to the big auction web site. I have noticed several posts over the past few months about deals-gone-bad, it might help the membership to be able to see how individuals have conducted past business transactions before committing to a financial arrangement with someone they do not know personally. Edit: There is the seller feedback thread, but I never really noticed it before I composed this post.

Phil
