well nobody else is answering, so i will. but i am by no means an expert. I have a green brittle star in my 55 gal. and love it. i have had no problems of any kind. i do have to feed him some raw shrimp every now and again. but he does good.

I agree brittle stars are your best bet in a system that small. and there are tons of varities of them.

serpant stars are more attractive than brittle stars IMO. One will be enough I wouldn't go anymore than that. He will eat most if not all of any excess food you put in there. I have a serpant star and like him alot

Depending on the species, I see no reason why you couldn't keep two.
Also note that keeping parameters constant is really critical, and a bit harder in these size tanks. But they can certainly coexist without major issues.

oh theres no doubt he could keep 2. I had a brittle star and a fancy serpant star in the same tank, they would even usually hide in the same rock... But it really depends on if you want that much in starfish... full grown add them both together thats about 20-24 inches in length...

But not every species gets that large. The "harlequin" one shown on this site - Ophioderma appressum is really lovely (although be forewarned - the color and pattern is highly variable) and doesn't get as large as other species. I suppose it also goes without saying that you may not see all that much of these guys
but they are really cool
