for those of you with a HD clamp-on sump light...

I have a 20L fuge underneath my 125. I was running 2x55w pc's to grow my chaeto, but i was getting too much cyno due to the lights being on for so long. The other day I went to home depot and bought your average work shop clap on light with bell reflector. The unit is 150wats and i bought a 75w "plant bulb" (looks like a flood bulb, but greenish blue). Anyhow, I'm not seeing too much growth and would like to know what type of bulbs everyone else is using to get their chaeto to go like "crazy"?

Thanks

I use a 23 watt compact flourescent. 100 watt equivelant. Look for it in the bulb section. It's labeled as "full spectrum" You'll see 5000k on the base of the bulb. Why couldnt you put the PC's on a timer?

pc's were on a timer. My main tank lights run for only 9 hours, which means that my sump light runs for the other 15hrs.

I bought a full spectrum spiral-type compact florescent bulb "for sewing" according to the package. It has worked AMAZINGLY well for growing chaeto and caulerpa in my 'fuge. It is growing very fast with this ~$8 bulb. You can find it at Wal*Mart, with the other CF bulbs. I think it says "for sewing" on it because it helps sewing folks to see all the colors in detail. Give it a try, it is a low-risk option.

thanks all. couldn't find a kelvin rating on any of the boxes, but bought a 23w spiral last night (at local hardware) that was labeled as general purpose. If that doesn't work too well, i'll take the trip to lowes and checkout you other suggestions. Thanks again...
