Forklift accident at my job

whats so funny is how he just takes the chain off and keep on going. Then you have a couple guys just walk by as if nothing happened. Then there's the guy pointing.
Did anyone even look up to see the damage?

I agree. He would have been gone just for the lie. Anyone can have an accident. To lie about and not man up to it is a clear picture of what type of person he is.

LOL, this video made it onto break.com. Looks like someone made $400 on your video, if it wasn't you who submitted it.

I was there when it happened. If you watch to the end you see a guy walk into the frame from the bottom of the screen in a green shirt. Thats me. I saw the whole thing happen and saw all the bricks falling down. I just spent $1000 the other day to fix the brickwork that he tore down.

We lease the building. I personally think he should have to pay since it was his negligence that caused the damage but I dont know what my management is planning. I think they are looking to put it through our insurance first but I dont know if that is going to go anywhere.

If it is only 1500 dollars in damage I would doubt that is more than the deductable.

explain the situation to me, because I don't get it. you have the responsibility to lease the place, pay $1000 for brickwork, and pay $5000 to have it fixed, but you DON'T have the responsbility to fire him because his boss is someone else who also works in the company that you apparently own at least a part of? how's that work?

still would be in question. They had an accident on a rig that we are managing the install on, that almost sank the installation boat and ruined some of the pipeline hardware there was a 1,000,000 dollar deductable. The insurance deductables on some of these major buildings are enormous.

As a former safety guy at work who had to deal with training and all the gov. agencies I can tell you WOW there is so much more to that video than just property damage. First, ALL forklift operators have to be "trained" before they can operate a forklift. Any time they have an accident they need to be "retrained" (The quotes are there because the definition of training is kind of a grey area) They also need to be retrained every 3 years. It is a double edged sword, a pain for the company to do but then also you have a paper trail that makes it easier to get rid of someone like the guy on the forklift.
Now for the really bad news. This guy is a ticking time bomb, not if but WHEN he hurts someone that person who is injured can sue for big $$$$. (Sleazy lawyer voice) So let me get this straight company executive, this person was caught on tape breaking safety rules, damaging property and putting others at risk and you STILL let him drive a forklift?....Well let's just add a couple of zeros to the end of the amount my client is suing for.

Its not my "personal" business. I am the IT Manager for a company with over 100 employees. I also handle facilities which is why I am the guy that had to deal with getting the repair work done. I report to 2 people here, the Office Logistics Manager for facilities related issues and the Controller for IT related issues. The guy driving the lift reports directly to the Office Manager and she is the one that decided to write him up rather than fire him

Unfortunately it's not my call who the bosses let drive a forklift. I have told them more than once that he shouldnt be allowed back on it since this isnt the first time he's had an "incident" but this is definitely the most expensive one.
