I just got formula two frozen cubes with garlic. Do you put it in as a whole cube or break it up ? I broke one up and it all sunk to the bottom and the fish wont eat it. Thanks

Hmmm. What are you feeding? What are they used to eating? Formula 2 is largely algae based i think and some will not eat it. You could try half a cube and make sure you have a clean up crew to eat the left overs. Try mixing a small amount of the formula 2 with the normal food fare. They may take to it.

i usually put some tank water in a dixi cup and put part of the cube in there and let it melt (defrost )break it up a little with a knife, then slowly add some to tank only as fast as the fish can eat it... hth:)

Its in a gel form. It got it for hippo tang who has ich so he eats alot to keep its strength. But when I got the food yesterday and I got home he was between rocks and has a huge swollen eye and didnt come out to eat, so I guess maybe the other fish dont eat the stuff like bdhough says.Crazy4reefs, I will try again but only a little at a time. Last night I broke it up and put the whole thing in and it ended up feeding the hermits. Thanks

Formulas in cube form have a "gel binder" that holds the cube together. If you let it sit for long enough the cube will melt and become a mush makeing it small enough for the smaller fish to fit in their mouth without you chopping it up.
The fact your tang is not eating is not good. A sign that his illnesses are winning. Try and put some food in the tank and quickly disappear for a few minutes. He could be too scared to come out and feed with you standing there.

I use the same Formula Two gel cubes. Do you have pretty good circulation in the tank. If you put it into an area w/ high circultation, It'll allow it to float around a little longer. What i do with mine is let the stuff defrost a bit so its easier to break up. I actually just break it up with my fingers while im feeding them. Ill break it down in front of a powerhead so the flow will keep it moving around for a while. Be sure to break it into small enough pieces so it doesnt sink to the bottom immediately. If that doesnt work, try what crazy4reefs said, feed them only as fast as they will eat it.
As far as having extra formula two in the tank, my shrimp and hermits all love the stuff too. They definitely catch any leftovers immediately:D

When I move away from the tank he is coming out. I tried formula two again and only tha blackcap basslet ate it and the hermits, but the tang ate mysis shrimp and seaweed. He seams to be having a hard time seeing the food. Now the basslet has ich. I dont know what to do. I plan on a 15% water change tommarrow night as Thomas suggested. Thanks

Thats about all you can do is feed them. As much as possible. Once you get a qt set up you're going to have to treat all of your fish in that tank for the ich to clear up.

I don't know if this will help, but I put mine, frozen wholef in my fingers, right in front of the power head flow, and let the power head blow it around, my fish all dart to and fro trying to grasp each and every piece of food. (of course they are all humongous eaters)
