Fostering Kittens.

So my wife and I have entered the brave new world of fostering kittens. Well mainly me since I do the stay at home thing. We just got our first litter about an hour ago. There are 4 little cuties and they are about 36 hours old and there is no mother. I would like to say we kind of know what we are doing, but I do have to tell you I am pretty nervous right now. If there is anyone that has done this, or anyone with any hints, and and ALL advice would be welcomed.

I will post pictures when my computer lets me.

Did you get baby bottles to go with the kitties, and heat source? How about a surrogate mother, such as a stuffed animal cat?

Yes we have a bottle for feeding them. Have done that already and it seemed to go well. As for a heat source we have a halgen light in their new home. Some of you may recognize what their new home is. That is a good idea about a stuffed animal cat. My daughter has one "Elizabeth" that is just sitting in her toy box.
Never mind the mess in the background in the pictures.

How did you get into this? You realize that you will need to feed them around the clock, right?

My mom has helped animals for years on end. She says will find homes for them. Either mom or dad gets attatched to them. Then they all did find homes. Their home.. 3 cats 3 dogs presently. All of her animals were abandon. It is not like she doesn't take care of them or they smell.
Make sure you help not hoard them.

We have looked into fostering kittens for awhile now. However when they had litters it was a bad time for us. Hard to get a litter of kittens then take off for vacation. So when the call came in last night it was out time to do it. We need to raise them until they are old enough to be adopted then they have an agency that finds homes for them.
Yes PB like your folks we now have a little zoo going on here. never mind the Naso tang I just bought yesterday.

You're doing a good thing for the kitties. Otherwise, they would die.
You might want pet them ever so often. Real life touch to simulate mother's warmth.

Thanks. My 10 year old daughters first thought was, "wait are they cats" We already found the trouble maker of the group. I call him Jeffery. (You have to say it like Seinfeld says "Newman")

Pit, When I am in the room the dogs are on the other side just wanting in. They don't know why, they just know they want in there.
Beth, my goal right now is to make sure that these little beauties make it until the next hour. I was shown to feed them on their belly, so feed them on their belly I will do. Maybe tomorrow we can get a little fancier. You will be glad to know at their last feeding my wife fed them and then I held them for a bit.

lol, my dog would wanna know what was going on too! she wouldnt hurt a fly though, she would probably think of the kitten as her pup. Dumb dog...lol.

We have a female cat that is 3yrs old. 1 year ago, My G/F went to the vet to get medicine for the cat. I was at work when she called me. She said when I get home she is going to kill me for what she got. I kind of knew what she got. Our cat would be ther sergot mother for the kitten. She would let the kitten suckel her. It was the funniest thing to watch. They get along awsome. The cat will get a ball in her mouth, walk around and meow till the kitten comes to join her.
