Dude, that's amazing! Don't have any wife experience, so I basically just wanted to tell you how awesome that deal is and to put up some pictures...you could try buttering her up with a nice dinner or something.

LOL...I'm a wife, and I am the one with the sw hobby...which is turning out to be more expensive then my husbands hunting hobby....so after the last few things I bought I told him we need to look for a new turkey gun for him
(I am the finance manager at home..LOL)
I also picked him up a new turkey blind (
), and some more hunting clothes.
In other words...does she have a hobby...or like certain things....ya know what I'm getting at...

Put together a business plan and present it in power point explaining how much money could be made selling frags out of the house. And in a couple of years when you havent made a dime just blame it on Pres Bush. Or just show up with it one day. It is easier to beg for forgiveness and ask for permission.

bulldog i am laughing my ass off.
is that you pup he is sweet i always wanted one.
but mywife seems to keep finding strays to keep.
well i pretty much pay all the bills and she takes care of the 5 dogs, food and landscape with her money.she has mentioned that she would like some roses to plant.

we also just moved to a big home and have alot of room in the basement and she has mentioned she would like to find a way to do something to make extra cash so a frag tank might go over .
she dont get home from work till 8 so i have a little time to think.
i have mentioned to her that my 8 inch achilles is a bit big for the tank i have now so maybe i can play that angle.

I rescued three bullies before i paid for this guy. Than I bought a female to try to make back some of the cost. During her first cycle she started bleeding internaly and had to fix at 3 in the morning. So I went from making money to paying for her twice. So SWF is my second expense hobby. If you really want one someday do your homework or you will get burnt. They are the best dogs alive!

i poured a patio and in the neighborhood twice i seen a lady walking her two.those thing are so fricken cool.
problem is we have too many now but once they move alone its either a mastiff or a bulldog.i had a bull mastiff ,lost him to bone cancer a little under a year ago.he was a big baby.but maybe downsize next.

Bulldogs are not in it for you. If you want a dog that listens than get something else. But if you want an independent animal that loves short walks sitting on the couch and food they are the best.
Good luck on the tank hopefully she understands swf are an addiction and you just cant help yourself.

The old english bulldogs were bread from a mastiff and a pug(figute that out).
They were much bigger and meaner in those day. People didnt have them as pets only for bull baiting. If you get an old english they are 80+ pounds and a good english should be not more than 60lbs. I can talk about these dogs like most people on here bragg about their tanks.

This is your best approach IMO, instead of a turkey gun take her to the local nursery or garden center and let her pick out the type of roses she wants.
Also sweeten the deal buy letting her get some annuals and perennials along with some landscaping supplies and to make a home run either you plant them for her or better yet join her in the planting of the new land scape, That would be priceless and she wouldn't even give second thought to you getting the tank because she will be bowled away with what you did for her
It's a win-win situation. Ask Meowzer she smooth hers over like butter

80lb. bulldog sounds awesome. i dont like little dogs.
she likes planting so i tilled the garden last saturday.gotta say i work out 4 days a week for 20+ yrs and lay concrete for a living and the tiller kicked my ass .i was sore for 3 days.put a nice 4 foot tall fence around it for her also.
well she came home and it worked out perfect.she has to have an operation on her ear in a few weeks and wants her sister to fly down for a week to be with her.this is my busy time at work .
so i offered to pay for her sisters flight if she would let me get another tank.
(of course i didnt tell her the size )but its in the basement so it dont matter.
she said i dont care as long as you pay the electric bill for it.
god i love my wife.

This may be a silly question but can you get that thing down in the basement? Do you know the dimensions? I don't have a large window access in my basement to anything over 30" or so won't fit through the door.

my house is built into a side of a hill so the upper floor is level with the front yard.the basement is level with the back.i have a double door to the back patio and can drive right up to the door.it is a walk out basement i guess.i can get the tank within 15 feet of where it goes.
yea there is no way i would even think of trying to bring that thing down those flimsy built stairs in a regular basement.

No clue, you could just show up with it, and say it was milk money...
But yeah, 1600 bucks is probably going to be the cheapest expense you have...

Could be a really cool project. Do you have more information besides the water volume? What are the dimensions? Have you seen pics? What is the condition?
Also, is the sale just for the tank itself, or does it come with stand/canopy? Just having taken on a project like this last summer, I can tell you that you are about to engage in a HUGE job. Of course, as stated by others, the price of filters, skimmer, lights, rock, sand, salt, etc. will dwarf the cost of the tank alone. Additionally, if you are going to be rehabbing a damaged/badly scratched tank and building a stand and canopy for this beast, then you are looking at probably 6-10 months of prep before this thing's ready for water.
Not trying to be negative because it sounds awesome. But I don't envy the work that goes into setting up something like this. In determining placing in your basement, I'd try to leave as much access as possible for cleaning and scraping algae. With a tank that size, scraping can be VERY difficult. Good luck and let me know if you need any advice.

i'd hate to buy the live rock and lights and sand that's going to be needed for this tank
Don't forget the powerheads, sump/refugium, other filtration, heaters, cost and time for water changes, etc.
My question is, where you going to mount this thing? Looking online, I found a statistic that states 1 gallon of water equals 8.33 lbs. So 510 gallons will be 4248.3 lbs.! Plus I imagine the tank itself weighs another 400 - 500 lbs. I can see why you'd put it in the basement...
