On saturday nihgt my buddie and i were driving around and decided to go through an allyway and found some live rock. The LR was still damp so i collected about 40 lbs. Now what id like to know if its still good after 4-5 hrs? Would it be safe to put into my tank or should it be cured?

You found LR in an alleyway?
Doesnt this sound weird to anyone else?
Why would LR randomly be in an alleyway? How do you know that it's just not normal rock? Do you know where the rock came from? How long was it in the alley?
Personally I wouldnt add this rock to my tank. If, for some reason, I had to have it then I would cure it for a few weeks first.

My opinion is, if you already have LR in your tank. Dry this rock out for a week outside and then put it under your current LR and it will become LR in a few months, that is probably the safest bet. I agree with the testing for copper though.
I had about 50lbs of LR and added about 80 of Base rock and now it is all thriving after a year.

Yeah, those darned Canadians eh...
Speaking of which, G Dude, how do you keep your temperature up? I find that if you have your tank about 3 1/2 to 4 feet above a small fire keeps it at a nice 79 degrees. Just gotta keep them huskeys out of the igloo, eh? All their hot slobbery breath brings the temp up too much!

:hilarious This has to be the oddest thread I've ever read (pertaining to saltwater aquariums...) First, you decided to drive through an alley? Then you stumbled on some rocks and decided to examine them? And they were still moist live rocks?? Why did you think they had been out of the water for 4-5 hours?
Why don't you just go back to where you found it and ask around? I'm sure there must be an explanation why it was there....
Me personally? No way I'm putting something I found in an alley in my tank.....

I am not sure if I would say anything to anyone about that rock or not. The tax situation in Canada is so out of control that there could very well be a "found LR tax" of 80 percent or more.

My god ur a lucky SOB. I bought about 18 lb of live rock at $8 lb yestarday. I have no one in my area selling off their liverock right now. I hate it, but they are at least good pieces that I chose out.
