Oh no sun polyps need to be fed, but they sure are pretty.
Candy Cane I was told will not do well under my lights.
I really don't want to come home with just blue shrooms but its looking that way.

Candy Cane is yet another coral that I had grow nicely under PC. Spot feed them a few times a week and you will be fine.
SPS, Clams and Anemones are the only things that need strong lighting IMO.

They do have these at this store.
I would have the perfect place for them right smack in the center of my tank where the GSP are that can be moved.
Feeding what is their demand??
If food falls on them is that good enough or do you have to actually target each and every polyp??
Would their color be nice under my type of lighting??
Thinking......

So Candy Cane or Sun Polyps??
Tank is not very deep so feeding is not an issue of course just have to keep "whiskers" out.
Cleaner Shrimp = "whiskers"

Feed them a meaty food like mysis or homemade food. Once or twice a week. I would spot feed only because I feel that the food is not polluting the tank. You do not need to feed each head like a sun coral. In fact you don't have to feed them at all but they will grow faster and look happier with food.

Plus it is fun to watch them eat. Spot feeding each head not such a problem especially in a tank your size. A small turkey baster type item that you can suck up a little food and place directly on the coral.

My only issue with the sun polyps is that when we go away on holidays every year and the kids look after my tank all the time with a great job done i know they will not feed each polyp.
So for the suns can you drop in a mixture of fozen foods jut above them and they will be fine??
Jerry says Candy Canes
Spanko what do you say??
What about color under my lights, would those sun polyps be colorful??

I say both. And yes you can feed the candy canes the same way. What do you think Jerry, could the sun corals go a week without being fed? I tend to think they would be fine.

Spanko we go away for 2 weeks, so I am wanting to know if i go this route if the boys made sure that the foods fell right over the sun polyps if that would be okay??

Sun corals can sometimes go a month without being fed. This is usually when they are introduced to a new tank. I have gone 1 week without them being fed. I try to feed them every other night and I will admit that I might not be getting each mouth fed. My thought process is though that if I feed my fish and other corals every other night and spot feed my sun corals every other night that each mouth will get something eventually.
I would not tell the people watching your tank to feed each mouth. That could lead to overfeeding if the person is not careful. I would just instruct to spot feed around the sun coral.

coastie81 I bet you are thinking twice now about this post hey. You wanted to learn more about the Fox Coral and here we are talking about everything under the sun. But its all learning. Feel free to ask questions if you wish I don't mind at all.....

That is what I was thinking too about just feeding around the coral itself.
Do you have a pic of your sun coral??

This sun coral has been passed around quite a bit. Mr. X originally had it and I just got it back from Subielover. It is a shame that it has been passed around because once they get comfortable they are very pretty. This pic was taken a week after I got it back. Much fuller now that I have had it for a month.

There are black ones too.

This picture from ******** reef. It just reminded me that with your light you could probably keep a small frogspawn too.

yeah but I am not worried I already have sun corals. I just wanted to get an idea about fox corals. I have a 110 can I place the fox coral on the sand bed or do they need to be on rocks???

Either is fine. If you have any critters that like to spit sand all over the place, better up in the rock.
