Fox coral

I'm thinking about getting one of these for my tank. It's a 90-gallon with 440 watts of VHO lights. This will be sufficient, right? To those of you that house this coral, do you do supplemental feedings with this guy? If so, what do you feed it? Right now the only coral in the tank is a Ricordia. That's my first coral. Do you guys think I'm ready for the fox, or should I ease my way into it with some green stars or zooanthids or something? Thanks for the help. Lance.

I think a fox is easy. I alternate feeding mine with DT's phytoplankton and kent's microvert. Make certain that there is no receeding flesh on the coral when you buy it. Don't buy it online. You need to look at the coral closely at a lfs to make certain it's completely healthy.

Actually, that's what is driving me to buy it. My LFS has the most beautiful fox in that I've ever seen. I've asked them to hold it for ten days so I can go back then and see how it looks.

Excellent idea, having them hold it. It's good to have them hold any type of invert you plan to buy for a while before you take it home, just to make sure that it is healthy. Foxes are pretty simple to keep. Assuming you get it, if you don't drip kalkwasser into your tank currently, I would highly recommend it. Corals need a lot of calcium to build new tissue and skeleton. Kalk may be old technology, but nothing has been able to beat it yet. It is also very easy to use, and you will see a very noticeable difference in your corals' size and color.

I don't drip Kalk, but I do use a two part additive daily in my tank. It holds the Calcium at 450 and keeps the alk and pH steady. I also add Iodine once a week.

I have a fox in my tank and it is doing okay. Where do you guys have them in your tank in reference to water flow and light?

Does somebody have a picture of a fox coral, or know of a website where I can view different corals?

I recently purchased a green fox coral and it opened in one hour. It is an awesome coral and seems to be an easy one to keep. My tank is only been established for 60 days. I am curently running power compact light, but will be adding more soon. My fox is doing well close to the bottom with decent water flow. Buy It! Good Luck.

I went to a lfs yesterday, just to see what they had, and they have a very good looking fox coral. I passed on it, becasue the only stuff I've bought for my tank, is from the pro who has set up my tank, and helping me through the start up phase. Also, I've never actually put anything in my tank, he has. So, because I'm like a kid in a cnady shop, and my pro doesn't have any fox coral right now, I have a couple of questions. What are the risks of buying something from an unknown source and contaminating your tank? If I did purchase this fox coral, and put it in myself, what should I do for acclimation if I don't want to get any of their water in my tank? Or, maybe I should just wait for pro to get some fox coral in? Who has it in their signature that "patience is the key" ;) Oh, BTW in case you are wondering, tank is 2 months old, cycled and running great with all life healthy and thriving.
