Foxface attacked Hippo

I recently added a Foxface Rabbitfish to my 75g which houses a Hippo Tang and a group of chromis. This morning I watched my Hippo Tang attack the FoxFace several times and the FoxFace definatly stuck him with his venomous spines more than once. How worried should I be. Is the venom strong enough to kill?

Keep checking the hippo for inflamation in the areas it got stung. Also, try to monitor the habits of the two fish for a while. Tangs are usually territorial like this, but usually Hippos arent as bad as others. Still, they will defend their ground. This behavior sometimes gos away over time, so give it 2 days. Wat u can do for now is rearrange yer rockwork so that they can each establish their own territories in the tank. Then, once the tang gets used to the foxfaces presence, things will cool down a bit. Remember, check up on the tang every now and then. If it gets seriously inflamed and looks like a problem, then go to the lfs and ask for a remedy that might be available for a sting like that.

Now my Hippo Tang has several scratches and white dots over his body. They almost look like puncture wounds. The Foxface stays in one corner of the tank and the Hippo stays in the middle, half hidden. They pretty much just stare at each other. The Hippo definatly is not acting normal. He usually swims all over the place. What should I do? I already tried rearranging the rocks....help..!!

Well, if the hippo got stung, then it is acting like it should. There really isnt much else that you can do for it, there MIGHT be a remedy at an lfs if u check it out, but other than that, just sit it out. The rearrangement wored to keep em away from each other, so that helps. Try making different piles in different parts of the tank, so they have their own little territories, and dont have to work with a huge pile. The tang willl know now not to mess with the foxface if he pulls through it. Just keep a close eye, but if it is eating, and keeping upright and breathing, then it is fine for now.
