foxfaced rabbit question

long time, no post.
i've reciently added a foxfaced rabbit (juvi) to the tank. i would say s/he is no less then 2, 2.5 inches in size.
he is not the normal yellow that i see. he has a yellowish belly, and a browish "upper belly". he still is getting used to his surroundings, he is now getting used to me coming to the tank, but is frightened my by fiance (which i assume is normal).
he eats like nothing i have seen, easily going through a 1.5x1.5 piece of gree alge per day. (the algee is also being picked at by the chromis, and mollys).
will he color up as time goes on.
the water readings are all at 0, when i last tested them, and i am testing them again tonight / tomorrow.

its in a 40g, but he's so small, he has ample room. at the LFS they said he can be in that size for about 6-8 mths.
i've had him for a week tomorrow. and he's not a magnificant foxfaced, b/c he looks nothing like the pics i've seen of a mag.

Foxface's have the ability to change colors instantly. They will camoflauge with their surroundings when stressed. Just walking up and looking at them might freak them out until it is comfortable in it's environment. Offer it a variety of foods from meaty to greens and as it gets used to everything it should color up more and more.

I have a question about the color of foxface rabbitfish too. I dont mean to over take the thread but it is a small question. When my foxface was small, he didnt have that black spot near the anertior of the fish's body, but now it looks like he is growing one. Is this normal? I have seen smaller foxfaces with the black spot, but mine is 6 inches and is just now starting to grow it. What's up with that?

And to answer your question, foxfaces can change their whole body color very quickly if they are scared or the water conditions are not favorable. But since your conditions seem to be good, I am sure he is just scared. Is he getting picked on at all in the tank?

I used to have one and I remember a few times looking in my tank and thinking it was dead they change colors quick and turn almost a pale greyish color if stressed

as far as i know, he is not being picked on (unless something is going on while i am asleep).
he looks better today, not much better, but better.
i am doing a h20 change tonight, so i will let you all know how it looks.
i gotta go feed him now, b/c he's just stairing at the clip where i put the algee, prob. saying "hey, where is all the green stuff?"

That is both a stress colour and PJs. Ours changed colour every night and then at times when he was stressed. There are varying degrees of this colour change from just a little shade to looking totally black.
This was mine at night.

that is mine at night too, it was a little freaky at first, as i couldn't find him at quick glance, then i spotted his face and found him.
today (pre-water change) he is still al little brown on top, but more of a yellow tint then before.
also, i forgot to add, he is scaring the bejesus out of the cleaner shrimp, will that relationship be repaired? he is not picking on him, infact, he doesn't even acknowledge him, but the shrimp just chills out on the powerhead all day (and the rocks all night)
