Anyone have one? Any nippers? What did it nip? Good algae eaters? I have an outbreak that won't die. What's the best fish for algae eating?

I am so upset and don't understand how it can keep growing. It's driving me insane. I cut my lights, do water changes, don't feed much. have a frikin sea hare, pincushion urchin, snails, hermits. NOTHING IS WORKING. I am almost to the the point of quiting. I don't know what will kill the algae or how to get rid of it. If you want I can show pics of the tank. Please help me rid the tank if algae.

I bought a Foxface to get rid of bubble algae. He did an excellent job on that. He also cleared out just about all of my zoos that covered the back wall of my 125g. Just about that time, I started to get a hair algae explosion, most likely due to the fact that I had overstocked my tank with that last addition. I have been unable to catch the Foxface.
I have ordered a Phos Ban Reactor and will be using it with bio pellets. I've read that this will use the nutrients that the hair algae is currently using to thrive. Hopefully this will take care of the algae problem along with more water changes.

I have a gfo and carbon reactor.
Do you have a fuge with macro's?? Or an algae scrubber?? That can help a lot. Don't give up Rickross!! It takes some time for algae problems to go away. Nothing happens fast in SW unless its bad. LOL. Have you seen your signature line.. Patience. J/K buddy. Keep at it and it will clear up.

I have both. It won't go away. I use the scrubber daily. What creature will do a good job of clearing algae?

The Ctenochaetus tangs do pretty good at eating algae. Check out a Kole, Flame Fin, or Chevron. But I am sure most would suggest not adding a fish JUST to get rid of some nuisance algae. If you want that type of fish for the long term you could go for one.

If you like the fish and actually want one in your system, otherwise I would not add a creature to solve a problem. I would figure out the problem and solve it. Your profile says you feed PE Mysis, is that all? First thing I would start doing is rinse your food with RO water through a brian net B4 feeding also cut back on the amount of food you feed. It say you have a clean up crew certain hermits eat algae where other do not. You have 2 emeralds you may want to add more. Also like sweatervest said adding macro algae to sump with alternate light on then DT will help. These are a few suggestion there are more things you can do, like posting water prams. and test for phosphates.

Do you want me to upload a pic of it? It seems to be various types. I don't have a qt, because I don't believe its too necessary. When my first fish gets ich, I will.

he's not talking about a mag float or a magnetic glass cleaner. An algae scrubber is a device which uses a roughed up plastic screen, rushing water over it with lights on both sides. It grows algae on the screen so you can harvest it out of the tank - reducing total nitrate and phosphate and killing display tank algae.

Curious as to what type of algae issues your having......
Bang Guy and I determined it was Bryopsis in another thread.

Isn't GHA just a relative term for multiple dozens of species that belong to the Bryopsis family? Id say treat it like you would with any form of hair algea. Do you have a sump?
