frag growth

is this a reasonal amount of groth after two months in a 55 with 220 watts of pclights this is on the first day of fraging

hmm its not to bad......how long has your tank been setup...i find after about a 10 months the growth increases a lot....if thos are gsp i get that growth in about 3 weeks under 2 175 watt and 40 watts actinic

my tank has been set up for about 8 months , yes they are green star polyps, but they are the kind without the white ball in the center

I will take it that my growth isnt' all that good.
I would like to add some mh's but I don't have 400 bucks for that right now maybe someday

You don't need halides for GSP. We have a 75 gal with 260 watts of PC ligts. Ours started off as a tiny frag and here they are now after about 1 1/2 years and at least 20 frags have been cut off of them. I'm going to cut off a 3X6" strip off of them this weekend for a friend.

It has been my experience that they grow better under vho, and not as well under halide. Just my experience though.

do you think it has something to do with the type of green star polyps I have, they dont' have the white center. Maybe they grow slower. maybe not.
dose anyone know the name of the one I have, I have never seen it before I got the frag from my friend?

I think alot of people use xenia and star polyps interchangably. Personally i consider the star polyps to have the thin (not featherlike) arms or tentacles with the white center. What you have looks more like what i would call a xenia polyp (do a search for xenia, pulsing xenia, or pom pom xenia). These xenia polyps typically have the flat, featherlike tentacles that your polyps appear to have. I have a LOT of pulsing xenia in my tank, and it grows like crazy under my pc lights. I've made many cuttings from them. They seem to grow a little slow at first as they heal from the cutting, then they can expend all their energy on growing after they have healed.
