Looks good Al. Any particular reason why you're going with glass on this tank over acrylic?

Yeah they both have their pros and cons. Just wondering. Al does some good acrylic work. Wondering if he wants this for a display or just simple frag tank.
I have a friend who is getting me a pretty good deal on glass, just going to try glass for a change. This tank is going in the basement where I can grow out some frags. Also I have a 250 watt MH I am going square for good use of the light. Any thoughts on that guys for eventual placement of the light.

Al drawing looks good!!!! As Corey asked any particular reason for glass over acrylic? I would use 1/2" all the way around the build. Is the overflow acrylic?

Probably right I know my 240 is 1/2" and the height is greater, but it's eurobraced.....I'm gauging it against acrylic and 1/2" would be a NO IMO....might get away with it, but would have deflection....

Browsed through a few threads and eyeballing manufacturers sites. Looking at a thread now a guy just purchases a 90g cube 36x24x24 rimless starphire made out of 1/2". Starphire from what I've read isn't as strong as regular plate glass. I'm leaning towards the idea that if he doesn't go terribly tall with it I think it would be fine as long as he does a good job with the silicone and uses the good stuff.
Here's a 110g rimless 1/2". Just for kicks.

correct i heard starphire glass has less iron in it, making is softer...actually heard people scratching it! Just wat i heard...not personal experience or nothing!

Nice tank Corey, noe on the overflow it looks like there is an insert. How did he get the top of the glass black.

I think he siliconed some black egg crate on there. The glass is probably just dark reflection from the black silicone in all the joints.

I don't know the exact composition of starphire glass, but from PPG their glass is no softer or weaker than plate glass. I had researched trying to track down 3/4" starphire a while ago.....

That tank looks good...What's the specifics on that tank you showed??? Height, Length????
Not 100% sure as I can't find the thread now. But I'm thinking he probably modeled it off of other manufacturers dimensions which would be 48x24x22 which looks to be about right gauging by the pic.

No reputable builder would do a height with 24" and no bracing.....That's risky but looks good though.....

I think the height on the ones I seen was 22 and the width was 24.

I stand corrected!!!!!!!
Personally preference I guess, and I've heard Reef Savvy makes some nice tanks.....I personally wouldn't feel comfortable going rimless pushing the limits

No I really wouldn't either. I came across this thread over on the big site that was nothing but guys with rimless tanks and there were several that were running upwards of 24". But I think the general consensus was that was really pushing the limits of safety factor. Probably why a high end manufacture like reef savvy would stay at 20" tops for the 1/2" stuff. There does seem to be a pretty huge price difference bumping up to 3/4" from 1/2". I'm still thinkin Al would be ok with his initial measurements with half inch braceless. But anything more I'd probably have to brace it or go thicker, myself as well.

Da** that is a nice tank but for the price it had better be!
Yeah they are some pretty nice tanks. I didn't see what the stand looks like that came with it but I would think it would be fairly nice as well. Can't be half as crazy as that couple on that show Tanked that was spending $30,000 on the quarantine tanks though.
