frag tank lighting?

I was planning out a tank probably 4feet by 2 feet, and no deper than 12 in, and was wondering what MH would be needed to light it.
i was thinking 2 250 watts. but what distance, ballasts, and reflectors?
I need help!

I would use T5. No sense on running 250w halides on a 12" deep tank.

This is probably a silly question but since this is just a 12 in tank and i am guessing will have frag racks in it so the frags are in no more then 6 in of water, could he not use just a standard cheap homedepot type of 4bulb t8 2x4 light fixture with some 6500k 32w bulbs in it. I thought higher output is only needed for greater depth penatration?

i've seen some really good growth with sps and metal halides though. that's what most commercial places use
