Fragged some SPS using Tonga branch for reefplugs

Decided that I couldn't wait for my reefplugs to arrive so I took my wet tile saw to some Tonga branch LR. Basin of saw is filled with saltwater (rinsed very well before & after) I kinda like the way these reef disk look, took about 10 minutes for the entire project

natural reefplugs what a hoot. you could manufacture those and sell them as "max's all natural reefdisk" the tree hugger crowd would go wild.
(no offense intended to any treehuggers or trees that feel they need to be hugged)

Have you considered maybe mounting a frag horizontally to see if it grows faster? I have heards hypothesis suggesting that the multiple upturned points insted of just one allow for the coral to acheive an overall larger size quicker from having several main stalks instead of just one.

I've got several reseach projects planned now that the frag tank is finally setup.
I had always planned to use the Tonga branch as reefplugs, but just wanted to do the frags with both types at the same time so that I could compare growth results using 4 types of reef plugs, Ceramic, Aragonite, LR rubble & those made from Tonga branch
.
I also plan on mounting frags in various ways, both horizontal and vertical, I have my eye on a couple of pieces that are very similar in size, shape and thought that it would be interesting to see how they respond being mounted horizontal
.
Next are the Acans and blastos.....I'm using basic stuff right now, just until I'm a little more secure in my fragging skills, then I'll start on my Micros..

micros...... thats a scary proposition, so expensive.
acans are tough when it comes to holding up to the abuse of fragging, they handle it fairly well.

I'd be your first customer
too many benifits to pass up.
1) natural looking
2) will continue to help filter your reef
3) more control over size AND shape
4) not taking from the reef just ummm.. recycling ...no ... ahhh RESHAPEING the reef
.
send me the order form

The more I think about this, the more I like these "Tonga Chips", I might even skip using the Boston plugs and just use these, several report have indicated that the corals encrust faster over dead coral....Plus these will look so much better when added to a reef.........I might even start selling them....
