haha the butter knife would ne be to cut the shroom it would be used to pry the shroom off the rock. BTW i dont thing the electric razor would work out that well lol
dont you have a utility laying around.

I just cut 2 of my shrooms at the base, some of the shroom is still on the liverock the every bottom of it. I placed the 2 fragged pieces in a low flow area. I will post back if it works and if it does im going to go crazy with it.

thats what its all about. you just have to try it. once you do you will sit and wonder why you waited so long. besides it is just a shroom we are talking about to all will not be lost if for some strange reason things dont go right

thanks oceana---I have one shroom on the rock that has to be at least 5+" now---so I guess if i fragg him, I still have 13 others if it does not work LOL. How should I frag him---cut him at the base and would and then cut into 4 parts at the mouth or just just cut cut at the base and do one or no cuts---again I am very much a novice at this and I am unsure if I cut at the mouth if it would work or leave me SOL. Thanks again for all the input!!! :joy:

I had a free floating shroom one that i let out of the bag, and when it hit the tank the current swept it out of my hand and it disapeared, well 2 weeks later I moved a piece of rock and there she was all spread open and looking hot. So I am assuming how that they will let the current push them around until they find a happy spot right?

well yes and no
yes the current will take them where it wants
no it may not be where the shroom wants to be or should be. or even more important it will surly end up in a place you dont want it to be either.
Simply take a small plastic cut and fill the bottom with small pieces of rubble.
toss in your cuttings and or frags and place a fine mesh netting over the top and place the cup in a low flow area of your tank. make sure they still get enough light.
then in about a week remove the netting and the cutting should be attached. take the cutting and the rubble its on and place or glue the rock wher ever you want on your reef.
I have said this many times before and i know lots of people on this board also do this and it works GREAT!!
GL to ya

Many experts use dull blades when fraging xenia. I do not know if this practice can be applied to shrooms as well as I have not even tested it out on the xenia. Just wanted to toss this one up in the air for you guys. They say the dull blade makes the frag attach more quickly, and helps the remaining stalk regenerate more quickly.

I have RIPPED many frags in half because i was in the tank and a coral was attached to 2 different rock that i needed to move and i will say that they seemed to grow the same as any other. so i could see how the above statment could have some truth to it .

I wish I could be brave enough to frag some of mine, too! The LFS around here could definitely use some of these to sell considering they never have ANYTHING!!! The mushroom towards the bottom is at least 4" across when it's opened fully....

I have a great coral with about 5 mushrooms. For some reason they have all divided in the last week. Pretty psyched about it. Ever since I got my chiller hooked up and working right. I have had my mushrooms, zoos, and xenia, and candycanes splitting like crazy. I think I have actually reached a point in time where my tank is taking care of itself. Amazing really because I used to spend so much time dealing with issues and recently, knock on wood, it has been more relaxing to watch the life multiply. I guess its the season for reproduction. he he... Finally, some rest....
Good luck to you all,

I too have a shroom rock that i will try to bite the bullet and do it tomorrow. it has two different types (purple and red-mostly) and a total of 27 on it. They are even spreading underneath it.

if you only want to have more mushrooms and you dont want to move the frog to another location u can always just put a rubber band over the mouth for 2-3 days. just try to get a medium thickness rubberband. i did it to my bullseye the other day and now they have fully healed i also had fragged it by cuting it into 4 pieces it worked but i didnt put a cover over the bowl they were in and one of my tangs i think ate the pieces .
