fragging Colt/Xenia Corals?

Hey I've just started adding Corals to my 55. Right now I only got 3 different mushrooms. In one of my college biology classes they have 2 salt water tanks one FOWLR and a reef setup. I talked to the biology lab guy and he said that he would let me have some stuff from the tank. I already got one of my shrooms from there but he said I could take like a Colt or Xenia coral also. My question is how to remove them? Both have small colonies that have sprouted onto new areas in the tank. Should I take a knife/razor blade and scrape the bit of live rock they are on or just use a razor blade to cut them off near their foot? Thanks

The guy at my LFS received some that were cut as close to the bottom as possible then pinned to a rock using an actual injection needle. They reattached within a week.
I would think this would have caused too much trauma to them but I have some in my tank that are now attached and happy.
I've also seen them grow like weeds and cover the whole backs of tank glass. A very cool sight to see so many polyps pulsing.
