Fragging in the display

Setting up a frag tank would not be economical right now and I have so much free space in my DT. But letting frags settle to the bottom never works with the current.
When I frag a mushroom I was thinking I could take the 1/4 and a piece of rock and wrap thread round the two a couple times to hold it down. Good? Will I hav to remove the thread?
Right now I'm placing them in tupperware w/ substrate and setting them on the bottom. This makes them hard to view and I can never really tell when they've attached. (plus I have to reglue the stubstrate to a new rock.)

strapping them down is hit or miss generally they slip out from under the tie down. the dish method while not aesthetically pleasing is the most effective method IMO.

Reef, would you sugest substrate in the dish then gluing that to a rock, or put larger rubble in the dish?
Probably a personal choice huh.

Get an in-tank fuge from CPR. Will cost about 20 and will suction to the inside tank glass. It will prevent all flow issues, put some sand in the bottom and have a blast :)
BTW, CPR is the brand, not a competitor's site

I like slightly larger rubble makes glueing easier crushed coral is actually about the perfect size.

i use something similar. i made a holding area for small frags out of thin acrylic. its 4" deep x 5" long x 2.5" thick. i made it with suction cups on one side so i can stick it wherever i need. drilled small holes in inch increments all around the entire thing to help aid in slight water flow/exchange. there is no top cover to it as its not needed. i keep it about 1/4" out of the surface of the water so nothing can get in or out through the top. i keep a thin layer of sand or rubble in the bottom of it for the small frags to attach to so they can later be glued to rocks elsewhere in the display. works like a charm so far. now bad for under 3 bucks to make.

I like that. I was thinking of making something similar. I have a big chunk of lexan. 4" deep, about 5" wide and 12 inches long. hen just build a mounting bracket for my hood and leave it in the upper back of the tank right in the middle. With PCs I'm not sure if that'll be good for mushrooms or not but that's what I'm playing with right now.
