How do i frag xenia? I have 3 stalks on a rock and want to take one off. Do i just cut it at its base or do i have to chip the rock off where its at?

You can just peel it off the rock - I use a knive or my fingernail.....use super glue gel and attach to another rock. Just a warning - they slime alot and stink when you frag them....

Sorry to jump in, but I just asked this same question on the reef forum. Are you talking about regular super glue that you buy in any old store???? And do you take the coral out of the water to do this???? I know that prob sounds like a silly question, but the process seems peculiar that you can remove them from the water, scrape them off and then superglue them onto another pc. of rock and put them back in the tank. Is that truly it, or am I missing some steps? Thanks for the input. Have several things I have been wanting to try and frag, but I'm so afraid of killing something! Corals cost sooo much!

You're better off to get some bridal veil netting. Just snip off the stalk that you want to frag and then place it on the rock, cover it with the netting and secure with rubberband. It will adhere itself in about 2 or 3 days. Its a lot easier and a lot less messier this way.
Go here and look for coral propagation and then Xenia http://garf.org/

was gonna say glue may not work the best for xenia since theydo slime up a lot...i'd use bridal mesh to cover it on a rock.

One other thing, shortly after putting the Xenia back in the tank, the polyps will protrude through the netting, dont worry. But when it is time to remove the netting, gently massage the Xenia with your fingertip and the Xenia will shrivel up. This will make it a lot easier to remove the netting.

Xenia is pretty hardy. When I had mine, I would just grab it at the base and rip it off the rock. Then, rubberband the base to another rock, and it will attach in a few days.
