fraging brains and favias?...

would i be able to physicaly cut off a piece of my brain or favias and they be hardy enoguh to turn into a new colony? my mh put some much growth that they have covered the rock, or in the brains case. grown out the skeleton. any ideas as soem frag places sell them as frags, so did they frag them themselves? im looking for more than the "let them grow to next rock" idea. would they live through a cutting?

ive seen it done with a table saw with a thin blade. at first i thought it would be toast, cause he was just buchering that favia to pieces!! but a month went by and they all grew into new colonies
