Hi all!
I have good news and bad news.
The good news my family, and I are alive.
The bad news we lost our roof, a palm tree fell on my car,I lost furniture, personal items, and my tank.
I am so devistated right now.
Hopefully fema will help replace animals too. But I doubt it.
Im still thankfull to be alive, but in a way I just wish I was as lucky as some of the others.
p.s on 9-11 I took my husband fishing in Port Saint Lucie and he caught a sting ray and was trying to step on it while getting the hook out of his mouth and got stung. He has a cut about an inch and a half long by an 1/2 inch wide. He was in so much pain.

nemo, so sorry to hear about your trouble. I can certainly understand how you feel. I felt like I was in immediate danger of loosing my tank as well, under the thread of IVAN. It is a terrible feeling to leave everytihng behind. But you have your lives and your loved ones.
Take Care.

Thank you for your support the only thing I think I can save/use is the rock, and maybe the pump and powerheads if they still work.
I called fema and they help with everything except the fish tank...>>>just my luck. The roof that I lost is not even my roof I live in an apartment so fema will help with shelter and replacing most of the items I have lost but not everything. There gonna come inspect everything so i'll see what happens from there.
This sucks!!! My tank was just starting to look real nice too. I guess I have to start over with a bigger tank ,and renters insurance.

First thing that happened was the power but my husband works for an constrution, and engineering company so we got a generator from his boss. They also had an ice machine, and gas pumps at there work. Then in the middle of the night I heard this load sound and felt a breeze almost all my roof was gone or caved in. We were gonna run down stairs to one of the neighbors apartments but when we got out side we realized it was the whole complex's roof. Someone called 911 and the fire department came with these special vans, and evacuated 20 families to the closest shelter. The next day they would not let any one back in to the apatments until they were inspected. By the time they finally got inspected about 5 days later. By then it was to late. The canopy had been blown off and I had rain water, insulation, debri in the tank.

black991 you live pretty close to me from what I remember I live in the village of Palm Springs did you get alot of flooding where your at? My husband and I ended up staying at a friends house off Palm Beach Lakes and brandywine. We had to have our friend in a hudge tow truck bring us there beause of the flooding the water was up to the top of his hood. Well we should be thanfull that it wasn't a cat 4 huh?
Right now the apartment matainence is cutting the Palm tree off my car. My cadillac engine blew, and my mom not even a week before the storm bought our family a car not the best but a 97 galant. This was the first time my mom bought me anything. Just my luck!! The palm tree fell on it right at the driver side door dented the bottom below the handle. there is a dent right at top between the door and the roof about the size of the crown of a head. but it is leaking water now. At least my computer was ok.
That sucks loosing our tanks. Im gonna try to start over maybe get a bigger tank. We are going to move to Port Saint Lucie soon so I guess ill wait till then. I have all my l/r in five gallon buckets with phs. ill just keep changing the water frequently. If my skimmer works use it now, and again till all the die off is gone and we move. Then start over.

I live in north miami.. which is not too far away from were francis hit. My power went off for about 23 hours ( 1 day), and I stayed in the house running a generator which was outside so luckly nothing happened :nervous: .
I got away with luck there though.. If it were to hit directly i would evacuate and kiss my tank good bye.

I hope everything works out for you and your family.
Good luck. :)

We had a generator. We just were not allowed back in the house.
Black991 where do you go localy for your fish supplies? I am gonna try start over from scratch. my email is mballin2@bellsouth.net.
Mr. Tuna your right I wanted to leave too but my husband convinced me it was a cat 2 and we would be alright if it was a cat 4 or 5 I would have been in michigan.lol.

Sorry to hear about your tank losses. Mine made it through running the generator days and using bubblers at night. The bubblers go a long time before the battery dies. If you had to leave again, you might start them. It could buy you some time. Of course, it won't help if you lose your roof. I had considered putting plastic over mine, but my roof is kind of double. Again, I'm really sorry.
