fresh water dip new LR?

I swear I've read on another tread that it is recommended to do a fresh water dip of 5-10 minutes for new LR just to get any pests (i.e. mantis) out. I received 45 pounds of LR in the mail today and I'm about to start curing it in a trash can.
Can anyone else tell me if they think this is a good or bad idea? I don't really mind if I kill off any positive hitchhikers as I've used the same vendor before and got great coraline algae, but no real hitchhikers anyway.

I know a guy that sets up public aquariums for a living. he recommends dipping the rock in regular water (though I'm not sure it's for as long as you mentioned). he said the reason for this is that it "shocks" the rock and causes pods and other beneficial stuff to spread quicker.
I have no true if this is true or not, but this guy really seems to know what he's talking about.
