Freshwater-dip Tank

We started as freshwater fish enthusiasts and are gradually turning our 7 tanks to salt. In the meantime, we have a 20gal tank running at a pH of 8.2 that serves as a freshwater dip tank for new acquisitions. We've debated about whether this tank should have an inhabitant to keep it viable. Since the dip doesn't last long and we check the other levels before subjecting any fish to this parasite-removing torture... What do you think?

i'm confused why you would have a fresh water dip tank? you are better off setting up a quarantine tank by running copper. a fresh water dip is stressful on the fish and it is more than likely if you get a disease in your tank it will stay in your tank, the dip will only temporarily relieve the fish of parasites. or did i misunderstand what you said?
