Freshwater Feeders

I have read that a diet of freshwater feeders causes liver problems for the fish. Not sure? I have read of saltwater feeder shrimp. I'll look around and find a contact.

Well I have been reading on several books and threads about not feeding gold fish however I had a large clown, a picasso trigger and a lion which I regulerly fed with goldfish and they were doing extremely well for a few years. I had to give away the clown because he got too big, and I dismantelled the tank when I moved back to Greece.
Their colours were bright, their physical aoppearance was perfect, and overall they were acting and looking fine.
I do not feed goldfish my triggers now mainly because of what I have been readind. In addition the cost and availability here in Greece is forbiding.
I never noticed all these bad effects that I have been reading about.
Finally I never saw the fish behave more aggressively than my triggers are now....
I would apreciate more answers on this topic (just for discussion and information, at least for me since I would not be able to get feeders even if I wanted to)

Every thing that I have read, and seen say no, I had a friend that feed his queen trigger goldfish for a couple years it started to get very thin and stoped eatting awhile later the lfs said the problem was from feeding goldfish. That is a chance I would not want to take.

it would be more $ if you feed feeders then a frozen food and frozzen foods are better for the fish

I have used freshwater feeders as a way to entice some new animals to eat. My ray became sort of "hooked" on live food when I first got her and for a while wouldn't eat anything dead. That was a problem, so I would feed my feeders food soaked in selcon/zoe, and when the feeders were totally stuffed and about to burst, would feed them to my ray. Not the best way to get vitamins into her body, but it was better than nothing. Luckily she started eating frozen food, and once that happened, I stopped feeding live.
I don't think all freshwater feeders damage the liver. I have heard that specifically about only goldfish. I still toss ghost shrimp and veyr small crayfish to my ray once in a while. She likes to "find" them in the sand. If there's a good sale, I'll toss in some peppermint shrimp for her, too.
Ideally, you'd want to get your animals off live food if at all possible. Otherwise, nutritional variety (which is essential) is going to be tough to come by. And you could end up giving your animal an unknown parasite carried internally by a freshwater feeder.
