you should post this in the new hobbyist section, but because it is freshwater I don't know if you will get a response. The 'recharge' asect of most ammonia water is inacted at fairly high salt levels, I know I had one that said to mix salt with the water untill it is saturated. a teaspoon per 5gal is not very high at all. I won't guess at the ppm but you can safley add up to tablespoon per 5gal as a general tonic/stress reducer, it also helps to keep parasites out. Be careful about the kind of fish you keep in a brackish water tank, not all thirve under those conditions.

You only add a small amount of salt if your tank is for African Cichlids.
I have have:
Fresh with all Africans
Fresh with the community fish and now hva converted to a salt.
You do not want to add any salt to community tanks.
IF you have too many live plants in the tank it can totally throw your whole tank of kilter.

i know salt is bad for plants but i have been told to add salt to my community tank to keep my fish healthy but i read that is some amount the salt can cause the ammonia remover to release ammonia does anyone know how much of a concentration that would be

I never added salt to my community either.
I was told that it was only for the aggressive tanks.......

Been keeping FW fish for over 35 years and never needed to add any salt. How are you going to keep up with your salinity in the percentages that would be safe? There are all kinds of old wives tales out there that say to add salt, same thing for koi and gold fish ponds etc...keeps ich away, chases parasites off, aides osmosis etc etc etc. Keep the salt out of the community tank and only use it in a QT tank if the need arises. It does not take much salt to kill some freshwater fish BTW. IIRC I read about a test as to lethality of salt with various tropical aquarium fish, and some species of catfish and gourami, and tetras kicked the bucket with just a very low percentage. Some fw tropicals can be acclimated and kept in brackish to saltwater just fine..Guppies and platys do exceptionally well in a 1.021 or so sg........Salt is also gong to kill any live plants if you have any.
Keep the salt for the marine fish or for use in the kitchen.
