freshwater question

I know these forums are for saltwater fish, but I couldn't find a good freshwater fish site, and I was hoping you guys would help me out. My little sister wanted some fish for a newly bought 5 gallon bow shaped fish tank. My mom took her to the LPS and bought her 2 jack dempsies because they are hardy fish. Well, the one beat the begesus out of the other and grew much faster, and we figured the one died and my mom scooped it out. Two months later, my old sister and I cleaned the tank out because it was black with dirt (ughh). Well, I found 2 fish, one without fins that was remarkably still vaguely alive. So, I took the one that was almost dead and set up a make-shift 2.5g tank up in my room to help it grow to size and back to health. The tank was old and had no light, so I went out and spent like $120 on a 10g nice tank w/ everything. So now I have a beautiful 10g freshwater tank, and all that is in it is a Jack Dempsey. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for what to put in with it. The tank is a 10g standarrd size with good lighting and a pretty nice hang on silient filter with a 25W(I think)heater. I was leaning towards a smaller freshwater puffer, but wasn't sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once again, sorry for the freshwater question.

I have some experience in freshwater fish and I have this great site for them. I do not think SWF.com will mind cause it is freshwater fish we are talking about here they even have compatibility charts for both fresh and salt. http//www.aquariumstuffers.com/ just search aquarium stuffers
hope this Helps
I like freshwater puffers, plecostomas( forgive the spelling), brakish, swordtail, shark, oriental fish, asian fish

if you wanted more challenge i would strongly recommend Discus but they are very hard to keep but as for color they are completible with saltwater fish and also expensive. and if you do with aggressive setup then go for asian/austrian arrowanas.

does anybody know if my Jack Dempsey would attack/eat neons/tetra's? Also - I have a feeling 5 gallon is way too small for 2 dempsies, do they grow to the size of their tank or will they outgrow it? Thanks for the help
*edit - also, Jack Dempsies are Canisomething or other Octofacs something or other and are American, correct?
